“We compared our invoices from Aug 3, 2026 to Aug 31, 2026 with the USDA's public prices for the Miami terminal market, plus 22.7% for delivery.

  • Tomatoes, Plum Type, Roma, from Supplier A: we paid $1.70/lb on average, above the public reference by 28.3%.
  • Avocados, Hass, from Supplier B: we paid $2.05/lb on average, above the public reference by 19.3%.
  • Basil, from Supplier A: we paid $8.50/lb on average, above the public reference by 15.5%.

Can you bring these closer to that reference, or show us what in the grade, size or pack explains the difference? If not, could you price them at the terminal price plus a fixed margin?”

Method

Your price is what you paid for an item over the pounds you bought, credits netted; the pounds come from the weight the pack states, else a pack sold by the pound or kilo, else the weight the description states, else the USDA pack's. The public reference is the midpoint of the low and high price for the same item and pack in the USDA Market News report for the Miami terminal market nearest each invoice date, within 3 business days, per pound, plus a 22.7% delivery allowance: terminal prices are wholesale, before delivery. An item is marked when you paid more than 3% above it, and its estimated annual dollars are the gap per pound × the pounds you bought a week, over the weeks your invoices span, × 52. Grade, size, brand, origin and pack can explain a gap, so a gap is a question for your supplier, not a finding about them.
